Hi I am trying to install LabVIEW 2010 on a stand alone computer, I have the serial # of the product but was wondering how to get the 20 character activation code? It is currently installed in the eval mode.
The license is particular to the computer you install it on. If you move it to another computer, you will have to get a new activation number using the new computer ID. However, since you activated your Labview copy for one computer already, the automated system may not let you activate it again for another system. You may have to call tech support. Go to ni.com and look for the Support tab. On the support page, look for the call NI button. This will get you started.
Labview 20 Character Activation
One NI LabVIEW license can be activated on up to three computers for use by one developer, so activating the license on the second computer should be fine. You can deactivate the first license through the NI License Manager just in case. There are few different ways to complete product activation and receive a code but this articles describes using the NI License Manager. You can also activate your products at ni.com/activate.
Thanks for the information, ran into another issue, I purchased 2010 LabVIEW upgrade but when I called NI with the serial # and computer id, to get the activation code, they said they could only provide the activation for version 9 which does not help as they sent me the media for version 2010. The computer has version LabVIEW 8.6.1 (activated).
In order to activate any NI software you need a 20-character activation code. The computer ID (16-character) is used along with your valid serial number to activate any copy of the software and generate the activation code.
I believe you are a little confused. The 20 character code is the activation code that comes from NI Activation Process. I don't believe you have to worry about the computer ID because it automatically finds that.
I would suggest using the WEB Activation within the Activation Wizard. This will generate all the information you need to enter into the boxes on the web form. After filling this out you will get your activation code that you can copy and paste into the 20 charater activation code box within the Wizard.
Borrow the Labview CDs from the Computer Operators
Obtain the Serial Number using your PIN code.
Install your LabView Software
Obtain the Computer ID (see below).
Obtain the Activation code for your computer (see below). If your computer is connected to the internet use that by quoting the serial number and your computer ID after selecting the product (LabView).
If your computer is not connected to the internet find a computer which is connected to the internet and access the web page (given below) and by quoting the serial number and the computer ID (on which Labview is to be used).
Launch the License Activation Wizard and quote the 20-character activation code.
DO NOT QUOTE THIS CODE - It is given here for illustrative purposes only. The Activation code is generated by quoting the serial number and the computer ID (which is 16 character code).

Upon running setup.exe from the Core DVD you will be prompted for your Full Name , Organisation and the Serial number. Following this you will be prompted for the destination directory for National Instruments software and LabVIEW. You will then be prompted for the installation directory for Signal Express. After this you will be asked if you agree to the relevant license agreements. Installation then begins. To activate the software you will be presented with an activation window showing the following options
The window that follows has activation codes already filled in, simply click on next. You will then be presented with a window asking for your name and organisation. You may at this stage also select not to register the product if you wish. The next window contains the option "send me email confirmation" of this activation. MAKE SURE you select this option. The activation wizard then tries to contact National Instruments over the internet. Installations so far have returned a message saying that an error occurred. If you now choose to exit you should subsequently receive an email with all the activation codes together with activation instructions. The machine then asks you to restart. The LabVIEW Core software DVD should now be installed.

To continue the software activation, you must have access to the Activation Request file that you created on the computer where you installed the software. Submit the Activation Request file. If the request is valid, an Activation Response file is created. Save the Activation Response file to your network or the external file storage device. You will need to have access to this file from the computer where you installed the software.
I'd like to activate it after the installation is complete. A red exclamation point shows up whenever I try to activate my software. My computer is not connected to internet and is asking for an activation code.
